Barton Landscape Service offers both residential and commercial lawn cutting. Our mowing operations include string trimming, curb & sidewalk edging and blowing off of all hard surfaces. After the lawn has been cut, our crews will trim around all shrub beds, flowerbeds, trees and other raised objects throughout your home or office. Then following up with blowers to remove debris from the hard surfaces to give your property a
finished crisp look.
Lawn Cutting Frequency
Frequent mowing helps the turf resist weed infestation, disease and insect damage. This is important especially during the growing season when the grass can grow as much a 5” in a week. Intermittent or less frequent mowing causes too much stress on the grass when cut and can damage the lawn. Infrequently mowed turf also produces a lawn that can look thin, spotty and even burned.
Barton Landscape Services mowing season begins April 1st and ends November 1st. We typically have on average 25 cuttings during this period.
Cutting Heights
As professionals, we maintain the cutting height of our mowers at 3” throughout the growing season and 3 ½” during the summer months. These heights do two things (1) ensure deep root growth throughout the growing season and (2) with deep root growth the lawn will remain greener and healthier during the hot summer months. Following these two rules of thumb, your lawn will be more resistant to weeds and turf disease.
Mulching v. Bagging
The use of mulching blades on our mowers is not only mandatory, but also a terrific way to return valuable nutrients back to your lawn. The nutrients provided by the grass clippings allow you to lower your dependence on chemical lawn fertilizers. Finely cut grass clippings contain nearly 80% water, 5% nitrogen, 1% phosphorous and 2% potassium. The nitrogen element of grass clippings may provide about 1/3rd of the yearly nitrogen requirement of the lawn. As you have read, by bagging the grass clippings you’ll be loosing all of the benefits stated above. What wasn’t mentioned is that (1) you can save up to 30% on labor and not to mention the cost to haul the clippings away.
Mower Blades
We maintain sharp blades at all times. We change and sharpen our mower blades every evening. During the growing season we will even change our blades at mid-day to ensure that all lawns have neatly manicured finished appearance. By using dull blades, you can expect yellow tipped grass and an uneven appearance.
Mowing Equipment
Our mowing equipment ranges from 21” push mowers all the way up to 60” riding mowers. Each crew has an assortment of equipment sizes to ensure that clients with small or large properties can be catered to for their specific needs. |
